Onironauta |
Valerie-Malin Schmid |
Germany, Cuba / 2019 / 0:21:00 |
"Onironauta" is a painfully beautiful approach to the Republic of Cuba. The face of the afro-cuban poet Omar reflects on humanity. As he wanders through Havana, he reminisces about farewells, memory, patriotism, and censorship. His mythical poetry takes us through a dimension in which past, present, and dream interweave into an immersive journey. The poetry of the local, Omar, combined with the observational 16 mm images of Cuban everyday life, create a deep feeling of the complexity of life on an isolated island, the feeling of mortality and the fear of a human of being invisible.
Jury Statement:
For the lyric stream that connects poetry and Cuban rhythm. Life of the poet and life of society join in the images. Film photography is accurate and capturing.

Deep Waters |
Alice Heit |
France / 2019 / 0:53:00 |
Plunging into the mysterious territory of feminine sexual pleasure, Deep Waters concerns the ‘fountains’ which sometimes gush forth at the moment of sexual climax. Little is known about this phenomenon, even by women themselves... Disconnected from our bodies and our desires by centuries of patriarchal oppression, the land of feminine pleasures has remained very much ‘terra incognita’. Deep Waters opens the door on rare and precious spaces where words are freed and shared... Travelling through our imagination, we allow ourselves to explore, to play; and thus to nourish and re-establish a rich and joyful feminine sexuality, rediscovering it’s full depth.
Jury Statement:
For an engaging documentary about feminine orgasm. With an appreciable level of irony, the documentary never declines to provocation or exhibition. Great poetry of film footage and animation characterizes the documentary. Feminine performances of dance, chant, and stone painting traverse different themes as sexual behaviours, social conventions, woman anthropology, and religious rituals.

Genesis 2.0 |
Christian Frei, Maxim Arbugaev |
Switzerland / 2018 / 01:53:00 |
On the remote New Siberian Islands in the Arctic Ocean, hunters are searching for the tusks of extinct mammoths. There is a gold rush fever in the air. The price for white gold has never been so high. The thawing permafrost not only releases precious ivory. The tusk hunters find a surprisingly well-preserved mammoth carcass. Such finds are magnets for high-tech genetic scientists. They want to bring the extinct woolly mammoth back to life à la “Jurassic Park”. Resurrecting the mammoth is a first manifestation of the next great technological revolution. Man becomes Creator. Genesis two point zero. |
Jury Statement:
For the engagement in the investigation about genetic engineering and its ethical impact on the future of humanity and Earth life. The documentary offers three different perspectives: from the search of mammoth tusks in New Siberian Islands, to genetic scientific research, to the recreation of a living mammoth through genetic technology. Great photography brings strength to narration and story.
